Hello, and thank you for visiting my site.
You’re likely here because you saw the advertisement for Becoming the King part 1 and wanted more information regarding your child possibly falling behind in school or in life.
Well, have I got information for you.
My name is Jeff Scott… aka Author Jeff Scott, and in truth, Charlie Marks, who is the main character of Becoming the King part 1 & 2, is a composit of myself and many other fatherless men throughout the world.
The stories are full of anecdotes for the young mind. As a boy of eight years, I started having questions that none of my teachers, my mother, or the non-existent father could answer. I was never taught to have or use my voice, so my questions lingerd in silence.
One of my biggest questions is on the cover of the first book… Where’s My Father?
I thought my mother just didn’t like him and didn’t want me to know him. As it turned out, I met him when I was 27 and guess what happened… I drove away after a 30 minute conversation with a paradigm shift… Why did I spend so much time thinking about this man? I mean seriously, when I met him, he was evasive and denied he was my father, though proof had been established long ago.
Now, mind you, not everyone’s biological father is a runner… evading life, and I cover this in part one when Charlie puts a club together for fatherless kids. He learns there are many existing reasons for a father not being around or involved. Some reasons are tough to handle, and others are through no fault of either parent. It’s a big paradigm shift when a child comes to terms with a missing parent, mom or dad.
In my life… as I’m sure in the lives of many kids, we hold our questions back because mom doesn’t always have time. My mother worked 2-3 jobs to support my sister and I. The same goes for many single parents today, men and women alike. There are a lot of parents with big concerns regarding their kids… they wonder if they’re doing things right, or if they’re screwing it all up and won’t know ’til later.
So here is the rub…
In your child’s mind, when you ask them if everything is okay in school, most will tell you what they think you want to hear, but not what is actually happening?
You may not realize this, but kids want to protect their parents as much as the parents want to protect their kids. So, we (coming from my childhood memory) will say what we think needs to be said in order to ease our parent’s pain.
We tell them school is okay, though it might not be.
We tell them that we understand, though we may not.
We tell them we’re happy, though it may be fleeting.
We tell them math is easy… though we don’t get it at all.
True story… I fell behind in 3rd grade because I didn’t want to admit I didn’t understand my times tables. I put this lesson in the story, but you wouldn’t believe how many kids don’t understand the X in the times tables. When I finally did… it was an aha moment that propelled me to doing math in my head.
There are a lot of little fibs we tell our parents to ease their mind and help them move along… not knowing the fibs are actually having an affect on our lives.
In Becoming the King part 1 and 2, the main character, Charlie Marks, learns many life lessons and finds answers that many parents aren’t aware of, yet still, needing to be addressed.
As an example… In part 1, Charlie learns things from a book’s character; a prince who is being groomed to be a king… an adult:
Though the question is asked in story fashion, it goes something like this…
Q – I have 5 issues going on, how do I handle them all?
A – “Focus calms the storm. I will write down each problem I’m having and choose which needs the most attention… then I will handle them in order to stop this whirlwind in my mind.”
That is just another small example of what Charlie learns, and because he understands what the prince is going through, he gets to see first-hand how the prince handles multiple problems, or knows what question to even ask… I know I was never taught this as a child.
Another lesson Charlie learns is about personal values… I was also never taught the “value” of an education and how it was for me… instead of seeing it as a burden to me… because it interrupted my sleep.
Or how about responsibility?… Charlie has a realization that he has never had to wake his mother so she can go to work, yet he has an alarm clock but still expects his mom to wake him for school.
In Becoming the King part 2, Charlie goes to high school and learns a whole new set of lessons that come forward during a time in a teenager’s life where parents know nothing… lol…
Do you remember those times? I do.
Through reading about Charlie’s day-to-day grind, kids begin to see themselves and how vital they are to their family.
This is not to say your child will instantly become non-self-centered, but they will begin to look at life and realize, like Charlie, often-times people are just trying to make their way through the best they can.
In part 2 Charlie recalls what his mentor, Nickel Jensen, in part 1 shared with him…
Then he laid it on thick, “Charlie, there’s no one in life who will look out for you more than yourself. Your mother will try for as long as she can, but to be a man, at some point you’ll have to handle your own life. Granted, you’re still just a young kid, but the lack of any self-discipline now will cost you a lot in the long run.”
Yes, this can be a tough thing to hear from someone, but by the same token, it’s a message every young boy and girl needs to hear if they expect to ever mature as a man or woman… an adult.
So… my aim is to help young boys and girls figure out where they stand in society, and to help them find their future personal values and voice… regardless of peer pressure.
I wrote these stories because as a kid, I needed this kind of help, but I didn’t receive it. My mother didn’t know the confusion I was in because, truthfully, everything seemed to be okay. Again… I was protecting her, though she didn’t know it.
What is your child saying, or not saying to you? Are they protecting you?
One of the best reviews I received was from a woman, a single mother… “I bought this book for my son and also ended up reading it. It taught me things I didn’t know to ask or teach my son. We now have great conversations at the end of each week and discuss plans for the following week… or as Charlie says, “A new day, a new way.””
So please, don’t wait another moment. Help your child start a new day and a new way, by clicking one of the links below. Are the books better read in order, yes, because there is a timeline, and there are things that happen to Charlie in part one, that your teen/high school child might relate to… so it’s a sort of “catching up.” Becoming the King/Where’s My Father? and/or Becoming the King/Charlie and the Ooters (Out of Towners) can be purchased individually, or bundled for a cost saving.
And just an FYI… these are instant downloads… there are no paperbacks available as of yet. Since they come in a PDF, they can be read on any eReader or computer.
